Are You Ready to Take the 10% Challenge?

A call for local residents to sign up to the 10 per cent challenge - a West Sussex wide drive to promote energy-saving - was made at Tuesday’s meeting of Adur County Local Committee.

The aim of the drive, which has been launched by West Sussex County Council, is to get as many people as possible to agree to:

· Use 10 per cent less energy,
· Conserve water.
· Reduce waste.

The call was made by one of the Committee’s members, County Councillor Paul Graysmark, who represents Kingston Buci and is Policy Adviser to Louise Goldsmith, County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy.

He said: "By taking up the 10 per cent you will be making a double saving - you will be saving money and helping to save the planet."

Mr Graysmark urged residents to follow the energy saving tips outlined in the 10 per cent challenge leaflet that has been produced by the County Council.

"You’d be surprised how easy it is to save energy. Small measures such as replacing standard light bulbs with energy efficient ones and turning off the television, not leaving it on standby, can make a big difference," he said.

This was echoed by the Committee’s Chairman, County Councillor Clive Williams, who represents Shoreham.

He said: "The point about the 10 per cent Challenge is that a small measure can make a big difference."
