NewsLocal MP pledges to do his 10%East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton commented has pledged to take the 10% Challenge, and is calling others to follw suite: “I am delighted to put my name to the 10% Challenge and would urge all my constituents to do the same. If everyone in West Sussex made simple changes to their everyday actions the difference in the amount of energy we waste and the damage that we do to the environment would be immense. “In my office we already recycle all our paper and at home we recycle both newspapers and glass. I usually catch the train to Westminster and the tube to Parliament and this website has reminded me that I can be doing even more to protect the environment for future generations. The key is to educate people about the damage that has been done, and continues to be done, and the ways in which they can help reverse the trend. “I am patron of the Green House community project which transforms second hand furniture, electrical goods and general household items into trendy new stock that is sold to the public at the East Worthing Greenhouse centre. Not only does the project encourages people to re-use furniture that might otherwise go in a tip, also it enables people on low incomes trying to kit out a property in an environmental manner. The GreenHouse is also an important educational tool for teaching young people in particular the importance of doing their bit for the environment before it is too late. I would encourage everyone to visit the Centre for some bargains and see how they can help the environment. “Helping to save the environment can be a fun as well as a worthy activity, especially for children. An added incentive for adults is that saved electricity, gas and petrol will translate into financial gains. I want to see West Sussex leading the way on environmental reform – the 10% challenge will go a long way to making this a reality and I would ask everyone to make a pledge today.” |
